sa\u00fade cerebral.<\/p>\n<p>Sabe-se que as altera\u00e7\u00f5es cerebrais da dem\u00eancia precedem em v\u00e1rios anos a apari\u00e7\u00e3o dos sintomas. Em 2020, um grupo internacional de especialistas, identificou os principais fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de dem\u00eancia, sendo que quatro deles est\u00e3o estreitamente ligados tamb\u00e9m \u00e0 sa\u00fade do cora\u00e7\u00e3o: hipertens\u00e3o arterial, obesidade, diabetes e tabagismo.<\/p>\n<p>Hoje sabemos que o que \u00e9 bom para o cora\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 tamb\u00e9m bom para o c\u00e9rebro. Quando se avalia a influencia do estilo de vida no desenvolvimento de doen\u00e7a do cora\u00e7\u00e3o ou do c\u00e9rebro, destacam-se a alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o, a atividade f\u00edsica e o sono.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9 muito importante controlar os fatores de risco cardiovasculares que podem causar doen\u00e7a nas art\u00e9rias que irrigam o c\u00e9rebro, cujo bloqueio, nomeadamente das pequenas art\u00e9rias, pode causar pequenos acidentes vasculares cerebrais que est\u00e3o na base da dem\u00eancia vascular.<\/p>\n<p>Sempre que necess\u00e1rio deve-se recorrer \u00e0 medica\u00e7\u00e3o para controlar os fatores de risco, como a hipertens\u00e3o arterial, a diabetes e o colesterol elevado que, para al\u00e9m de causarem aterosclerose, contribuem para o desenvolvimento de dem\u00eancia.<\/p>\n<p>Se a pessoa for obesa deve seguir as orienta\u00e7\u00f5es m\u00e9dicas em termos alimentares e de exerc\u00edcio f\u00edsico, para reduzir o excesso de peso. O mesmo se passa relativamente ao tabagismo, que deve cessar, se necess\u00e1rio, com recurso a apoio m\u00e9dico.<\/p>\n<p>O sedentarismo \u00e9 outro fator de risco claramente identificado pela revis\u00e3o de 2020. Qualquer tipo de atividade, como a marcha, a nata\u00e7\u00e3o, o ciclismo, a dan\u00e7a, entre outros, praticadas cerca de meia hora por dia, pode fazer toda a diferen\u00e7a.<\/p>\n<p>Em particular, as pessoas idosas devem manter-se tamb\u00e9m socialmente e mentalmente ativas. Conviver com a fam\u00edlia e os amigos, fazer trabalho volunt\u00e1rio colaborando em causas sociais, conhecer novas pessoas;\u00a0 manter o c\u00e9rebro ativo, como ler, fazer exerc\u00edcios mentais (palavras cruzadas, sudoku, etc.), aprender novas l\u00ednguas, estudar novos assuntos, ler, frequentar cursos culturais, viajar, constituem estrat\u00e9gias ben\u00e9ficas para a sa\u00fade do c\u00e9rebro.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9 tamb\u00e9m muito importante, desde crian\u00e7a, proteger a cabe\u00e7a, evitando grandes traumatismos, devidos a quedas ou acidentes de via\u00e7\u00e3o, assim como pancadas repetidas na cabe\u00e7a, mesmo mais leves, como em certos desportos, com destaque para o pugilismo. Neste desporto s\u00e3o conhecidos in\u00fameros casos de atletas com dem\u00eancia ou doen\u00e7a de Parkinson.<\/p>\n<p>Deve-se tratar a depress\u00e3o, a surdez e evitar o abuso de subst\u00e2ncias t\u00f3xicas, como as drogas e o \u00e1lcool em excesso. Usar um bom aparelho de audi\u00e7\u00e3o, se necess\u00e1rio, ajuda \u00e0 intera\u00e7\u00e3o social e, est\u00e1 demonstrado, previne a dem\u00eancia. Se tiver per\u00edodos prolongados de grande tristeza, tend\u00eancia para se isolar e pensamentos suicidas, deve consultar o m\u00e9dico. Gerir o stress cronico, que para al\u00e9m de afetar a qualidade de vida, influencia negativamente a fun\u00e7\u00e3o cognitiva.<\/p>\n<p>Evite a priva\u00e7\u00e3o continuada de sono, que causa irritabilidade e torna o pensamento menos claro. \u00c9 importante detetar e tratar, se for caso disso, a apneia do sono. Se existe ansiedade e ins\u00f3nias tente aprender t\u00e9cnicas n\u00e3o farmacol\u00f3gicas que lhe permitam dormir sem recorrer a medicamentos. N\u00e3o se morre por n\u00e3o dormir alguns dias, mas muitas pessoas morreram, por quedas ou acidentes de via\u00e7\u00e3o, devido ao efeito de sonol\u00eancia prolongada de medicamentos para ajudar a dormir.<\/p>\n<p>Tomar f\u00e1rmacos desnecess\u00e1rios \u00e9 uma das maneiras de fomentar um envelhecimento acelerado. Por isso, deve rever periodicamente, com a ajuda do m\u00e9dico, os medicamentos que est\u00e1 a tomar, de forma a identificar aqueles que podem j\u00e1 n\u00e3o ser necess\u00e1rios ou ser at\u00e9 mesmo prejudiciais.<\/p>\n<p>Estar envolvido socialmente evita a solid\u00e3o e at\u00e9 a monotonia e esta participa\u00e7\u00e3o d\u00e1 prop\u00f3sito para viver, previne ou pelo menos adia a dem\u00eancia.
